Profile
DLC Abacrafts is the soul of creative native handicrafting. Its primary raw material, the abaca fiber, is known worldwide as Manila hemp and is obtained from the leafsheath of the abaca, Musa textilis Nee. It is considered as the strongest among natural fibers and is innovatively crafted into placemats, hot pads, glass coasters, glass jackets, napkin rings, doormats, waste baskets, flower vases, hammocks, and area rugs. It also offers decorative dried ferns, grass, foliage and wild flowers.
DLC Abacrafts was created in 1987 upon its entry to the ANP having been born out of a perceived need for a cottage industry in the Consing sugar farm. It provided livelihood activities that housewives did at home as well as an alternative source of income to out of school youth besides sugarcane field work. The growing business also provided a market for suppliers of abaca, wild ferns, grass and different foliage found in the hills of Cadiz, Manapla, Murcia and even Panay. DLC Products are displayed at the Negros Showroom.
