Tumandok is vernacular for “native” or “local inhabitant.” Tumandok Crafts Industries started with gift items like picture frames, utility boxes and office accessories. It then developed a line of furniture accessories such as vases, mirror frames and planters. It then produced light furniture like side tables, curio cabinets, cocktail and coffee tables. It is now very proud of its newest customized laminated lumina lines and wall decors. It has become a recipient of the APFTI and CIDA Pearl grants as well as a DTI subsidy.
Tumandok Crafts Industries started as a small trading firm of native products in 1988. It ventured into lamination with 12 workers in 1997 and in a year’s time doubled its workforce. Continued progress was achieved through seminars such as Global Trends Seminar, Basics of Exporting, Visual Merchandising, Productivity Seminar, 5S Seminar, Joys of Entrepreneurship, and Fair Trade Colloquium among others, with trade missions with CITEM, Cebu X and the annual Negros Trade Fairs. Products are distributed internationally in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East; nationally at Rustan’s, SM, Balikbayan, as well as Dumaguete City; and locally at Gaisano City and at the Negros Showroom.
